World AIDS Day is conceived as a time for reflection and effort not only to help people living
with the HIV/AIDS virus, but for all of us to get engaged in the war against further spread of this considerably dangerous virus.
In the frame of the World AIDS Day, on December 1st, “Western Balkans” University organized an informing session on this topic. The special guest speaker of the seminar was Mrs. Olimbi Hoxhaj, Executive Director of the Association of People with HIV/AIDS in Albania.
Mrs. Hoxhaj shared her personal experience as a person living with the virus, the challenges she has been through, and the untiring work she has done for all Albanian people living with the virus. The association she leads has taken important steps so the people with HIV/AIDS could have the possibility to live with dignity, have the chance of being well treated, educated and supported.
The students who were present at the seminar experienced many emotions during the explanation of the stigmatizing and discriminatory situations experienced by Mrs. Hoxhaj and also the people who live with this virus.
At the end of the seminar, the students expressed their desire to be an active part of the anti- stigma and anti-discrimination campaign organized by the association of people with HIV/AIDS in Albania.
