The Integrated Study Program of Second Cycle, “Master of Sciences” in “Dentistry” is part of the Faculty of Dental Medicine. This Program aims to provide knowledge related to the study of future trends and developments in the field of dentistry as well as the provision of quality teaching in cooperation with international partners. This program also aims to combine global teaching perspectives and local potential in the field of Dentistry as well as to provide a more supportive learning environment for the profession.
The purpose of the program is to prepare graduates to take responsibility as competent dental professionals and practitioners in providing promotional, preventive, curative and rehabilitation services. Upon completion of studies in this branch, the student acquires the necessary basis in the theoretical and clinical aspect of dentistry in accordance with the general development of society, science and technology.
There are eight categories that represent the professional fields of dentists such as:
Professionalism
Ethics and law
Communication and social skills
Basic knowledge
Analysis and collection of clinical data
Diagnosis and treatment planning
Treatment – achieving and maintaining oral health
Preventive measures and health promotion.
All of these areas are interdisciplinary in their orientation that encourage critical thinking and can be applied to patients of different ages. Activities involved in teaching, research and clinical care promote the development and implementation of these disciplines throughout the years of study at Western Balkans University (WBU).
Graduates of this program can work as general dentists. General dentists use their oral diagnostic, predictive, surgical and rehabilitative skills to restore damaged or missing tooth structures or to treat diseases of the bone or soft tissue in the mouth. Besides practicing as a general dentist, graduates can also further continue their training in one of dental specialties like orthodontics, pedodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, etc.
Teaching in this program is conducted entirely in English. Professional internships have an important role in this program which will be organized by the department and supervised by subject teachers in cooperation with the staff of the respective centers.
