Prof. Dr. Evis Sala is one of the most renowned figures in the field of oncological imaging at the international level.

From 2022 to 2025, she served as the Founding Rector of Western Balkans University, where she laid the academic and strategic foundations of the institution.

She currently leads the Center for Diagnostic Imaging and Oncological Radiotherapy at Gemelli Polyclinic and teaches at Western Balkans University, contributing her extensive academic and research expertise to the education and training of the next generation of health professionals.

Prof. Sala has had a distinguished academic and research career in the United Kingdom, where she spent many years at the University of Cambridge, co-directing the Advanced Cancer Imaging Programme and the Integrated Cancer Medicine Programme at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre.

Her research focuses on the development and validation of functional imaging biomarkers to rapidly assess cancer treatment response, using physiological and metabolic imaging of the tumor habitat. Her expertise includes radiogenomics, integrating quantitative imaging with genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, as well as applying artificial intelligence methods for image reconstruction, segmentation, and advanced data integration.

She is also a distinguished mentor and speaker, committed to educating and inspiring the next generation of medical and scientific professionals.
In recognition of her contribution to education and research in oncological imaging, she received the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) Honoured Educator Award in 2014, 2017, and 2020. Her leadership extends to the most important international bodies in the field, as a Fellow of the International Cancer Imaging Society, Fellow of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, Fellow of the European Society of Urogenital Radiology, and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
