The Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences is designed to prepare highly qualified professionals in the fields of clinical laboratory medicine and forensic sciences, integrating contemporary scientific knowledge with advanced diagnostic and analytical practices. The programme aims to develop specialists capable of understanding, analysing, and interpreting biological, biochemical, molecular, and toxicological data related both to human pathological processes and to scientific investigations within the forensic context.
In response to the evolving needs of the healthcare system, forensic medicine, and public security institutions at national and regional levels, the programme is structured around two specialised profiles:
• Clinical Diagnostics – focusing on advanced laboratory methods for the diagnosis, monitoring, and management of diseases.
• Forensic Sciences – focusing on biological and chemical analyses for human identification, the investigation of psychoactive substances, forensic toxicology, and the handling and examination of trace evidence within legal contexts.
The programme is built upon a broad interdisciplinary foundation, encompassing molecular biology, clinical biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, epidemiology, toxicology, forensic DNA analysis, legal evidence management, and accredited laboratory systems. This integrated approach enables students not only to acquire advanced technical competencies but also to understand the importance of quality assurance, traceability, professional ethics, and laboratory safety.
To prepare professionals in accordance with contemporary standards, the programme combines theoretical instruction with advanced laboratory practice and the application of modern technologies in molecular analysis, spectrophotometry, forensic examination, laboratory automation, and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
In line with current developments in biomedical sciences, the programme places particular emphasis on scientific research, laboratory data analysis, bioinformatics, and the integration of digital technologies into diagnostic and forensic processes. It is also designed in alignment with European laboratory competency standards, including those promoted by the European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM), the European Qualifications Framework (EQF Level 7), and international standards for accredited laboratories (ISO 15189 and ISO/IEC 17025).
In a labour market characterised by the continuous expansion of laboratory services, increasing demands for quality assurance, the need for rapid pathogen identification, and the growing importance of forensic sciences, this programme aims to prepare professionals capable of actively contributing to these developments. It is intended for individuals interested in biological and chemical analysis, scientific research, diagnostic innovation, and investigative processes related to justice and public security.
