In the framework of the InnoVision Forum 2025, organized as part of the EU–WB6 Investment Forum, Western Balkans University (WBU) and Durana Tech Park (DTP) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a new milestone in fostering innovation, research, and technology-driven collaboration in Albania and the wider Western Balkans region.
The agreement was formally signed by Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Gjana, Rector of Western Balkans University, and Mr. Gjergji Taho and Ms. Florensa Kovaçi, representatives of Durana Tech Park.
This partnership establishes a strong framework of academic–industrial cooperation, focused on advancing innovation ecosystems and strengthening the bridge between higher education and the technology market. Through this Memorandum, Western Balkans University commits to:
- Grant access to its laboratories and university facilities in accordance with the needs of Durana Tech Park;
- Support the development of start-ups in collaboration with DTP;
- Co-design and implement joint training modules based on identified market needs;
- Apply jointly to EU-funded projects as part of a consortium;
- Hold periodic meetings with DTP to enhance and adapt academic curricula to industry demands;
- Facilitate student internships and professional practice opportunities in partnership with DTP;
- Enable data collection and prototype testing for digital applications and technological solutions, engaging researchers, students, and industry partners in analysis and certification processes;
- Encourage joint research and publications;
- Develop joint academic programs and potentially dual degree pathways in the field of Information Technology.
Each specific activity foreseen under this MoU will be detailed in subsequent agreements, outlining objectives, budgets, responsible departments, and measurable outcomes.
The signing of this Memorandum underscores the shared vision of WBU and Durana Tech Park to cultivate innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, and technological advancement — reinforcing Albania’s and the Western Balkans’ position in the European innovation landscape.
