As part of the official visit of Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Chairman of The Nippon Foundation, to Albania, a high-level bilateral meeting was held at the premises of Western Balkans University between Rector Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Gjana and Mr. Sasakawa.
The meeting focused on opportunities to deepen institutional cooperation through the development of several strategic projects with national and regional impact, including:
- The establishment of the WBU–Nippon Joint PhD Fellowship Program
- The inauguration of the "Japanese Corner" as a permanent cultural and academic center
- The creation of a modern biobank for biomedical and clinical research
- The launch of a volunteer network of medical and nursing students to provide healthcare services in remote and underserved areas.
This meeting marks an important step toward strengthening the partnership between WBU and The Nippon Foundation, grounded in shared values of ethical leadership and sustainable development.
