Position Description
 
Western Balkans University invites applications for the position of  Head of the Department of Preclinical Medical Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine.

The Head of Department is a key academic authority within the Faculty, responsible for the leadership, organization, and continuous development of teaching and research activities within the Department, in accordance with the University Statute and institutional regulatory framework.

The Head of Department exercises academic and administrative authority within the Department, ensuring its effective functioning as a basic unit of teaching and scientific research, as well as the quality, coherence, and continuous improvement of study programmes.
 
The Department of Preclinical Medical Sciences plays a critical role in delivering the foundational component of medical education. The Head of Department is expected to provide strategic and operational leadership, ensuring alignment of academic programmes with medical education standards, scientific developments, and quality assurance requirements.

 Duties and Responsibilities 
 
Academic and Institutional Leadership 
·         Leading, coordinating, and supervising the academic and research activities of the Department in line with the University Statute and institutional policies; 
·         Ensuring the effective functioning and continuous development of the Department as a basic unit of teaching and scientific research; 
·         Representing the Department within the Faculty and University governance structures; 
·         Reporting regularly to the Dean on academic, research, and administrative matters; 
Teaching and Study Programmes 
·         Ensuring the quality, organization, and delivery of teaching across all preclinical study components; 
·         Coordinating the design, development, review, and continuous improvement of curricula and course syllabi; 
·         Proposing the establishment, revision, or improvement of study programs; 
·         Contributing to the definition of admission criteria, student quotas, and academic standards; 
·         Ensuring alignment of study programs with accreditation requirements and institutional priorities; 
Research and Academic Development 
·         Promoting and coordinating scientific research activities within the Department; 
·         Supporting the development of research projects and academic collaborations; 
·         Contributing to the strengthening of the Department’s research profile and academic output; 
Staff Management and Coordination 
·         Allocating and supervising academic workload; 
·         Participating in recruitment processes and proposing staffing needs; 
·         Monitoring and evaluating academic staff performance; 
·         Fostering a collaborative and high-performing academic environment; 
 
Quality Assurance and Compliance 
·         Ensuring compliance with the University Statute and applicable legislation; 
·         Contributing to internal quality assurance processes; 
·         Supporting monitoring of teaching quality and program performance; 
·         Maintaining high standards of academic integrity and ethics; 
 
Education and Qualifications 
·         Academic title of Professor (Prof. Dr.) or Associate Professor (Assoc. Prof.), or a PhD obtained from a recognized institution in an OECD/OSCE country 
·         Minimum of 10 years of academic experience; 
·         Experience in academic leadership and curriculum development; 
·         Expertise in preclinical medical disciplines; 
·         Research and publication experience is an advantage; 
·         Strong leadership and communication skills; 
·         Native or proficient level of English;
