Position Description 
Western Balkans University invites applications for the position of Professor / Associate Professor in General Surgery within the Department of Medicine. 
The selected candidate will contribute to the delivery of the integrated study program in Medicine and related academic programmes, ensuring high-quality teaching, clinical training, and academic engagement in accordance with the University Statute and institutional regulations. 
The role focuses on teaching, surgical training, and academic development, supporting the preparation of future medical professionals through the integration of theoretical knowledge, clinical practice, and evidence-based surgical approaches. 

The candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to academic excellence, student engagement, and continuous professional development, while contributing to the advancement of teaching methodologies and curriculum development in the field of General Surgery.

Duties and Responsibilities 
 
Teaching and Academic Activities 
·         Delivering high-quality teaching in General Surgery, including lectures, seminars, and clinical training; 
·         Preparing and updating course syllabi in accordance with institutional procedures and academic standards; 
·         Integrating theoretical knowledge with clinical practice through case-based learning and surgical simulations; 
·         Supervising and mentoring students, including academic advising and clinical guidance; 
 
Clinical and Surgical Practice 
·         Supporting clinical and surgical training activities in accordance with program requirements; 
·         Contributing to the development of students’ surgical skills, clinical decision-making, and patient management competencies; 
 
Research and Academic Development 
·         Participating in scientific research activities and contributing to academic publications; 
·         Engaging in professional development and continuous training activities; 
·         Contributing to curriculum development and the continuous improvement of academic programs; 
 
Institutional Responsibilities and Quality Assurance 
·         Complying with the University Statute, internal regulations, and applicable legislation; 
·         Participating in academic staff evaluation and quality assurance processes; 
·         Contributing to departmental and faculty activities, including meetings, seminars, and academic initiatives; 
·         Maintaining high standards of academic integrity, ethics, and professional conduct; 
 
Education and Qualifications 
·         Academic title of Professor or Associate Professor in General Surgery; 
·         PhD in Medicine or a related medical field; 
·         Proven experience in academic teaching and surgical training; 
·         Demonstrated expertise in areas such as preoperative assessment, surgical techniques, perioperative care, trauma management, and postoperative management; 
·         Experience in clinical supervision or simulation-based teaching is considered an advantage; 
·         Scientific publications in General Surgery or related medical disciplines are considered an asset; 
·         Strong communication and teaching skills; 
·         Native or proficient level of English;
