Position Description
Western Balkans University is seeking to hire a full-time Professor / Associate Professor in Microbiology to support the integrated Master's study program in Medicine and related health science programs within the Department of Medicine. The candidate is expected to provide high-quality academic teaching in the field of microbiology, covering core topics on pathogenic microorganisms, mechanisms of infection and immune response, laboratory diagnosis, treatment and management of infectious diseases, as well as the application of this knowledge in clinical practice and patient care.

The ideal candidate should possess a strong academic background and teaching experience in key areas of microbiology, including bacteriology, virology, mycology, and parasitology, mechanisms of pathogenesis and immune response, laboratory diagnosis and pathogen identification, as well as the application of this knowledge in clinical practice. A deep understanding of the microbiologist’s role in interdisciplinary healthcare teams is required, along with a commitment to student engagement, professional ethics, and the use of contemporary teaching methods.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. To recognize, respect, implement and act in accordance with the legislation and internal legal acts in force;
2. To implement the provisions of the statute and internal regulations of the institution;
3. To implement the rules of ethics and discipline in the institution, avoiding any action inside and outside the institution that harms the image of the institution;
4. Undertake tasks related to student supervision, organizing academic consultations and advising;
5. Engage in the implementation of administrative tasks in the department which are defined in the relevant instructions;
6. To respect the time allocated for teaching according to the official schedule approved for the development of lecture, seminar, laboratory and practical classes;
7. To fulfill the obligation to draft the syllabus and submit it after approval by the head of the basic unit according to the instructions in for;
8. To increase professional academic skills and participate in training activities for this purpose;
9. Participate in scientific research activities and training in accordance with his/her profile (field of study), according to the needs and determinations of the institution;
10. To undergo an evaluation of the performance of academic staff;
11. To report at the end of each academic year on all aspects of the organization of teaching for the relevant discipline according to the predetermined format;
12. To contribute to the development, planning, updating and implementation of a high-quality curriculum;
13. Assist in the development of learning materials, and record keeping to monitor student progress, achievement and participation; update learning materials and syllabus;
14. Participate in department and faculty seminars aimed at presenting research work and building interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the department;
15. Participate in the development, administration, marking of exams and other assessments;
16. To contribute to the group work of the department, faculty or Western Balkans University.

Education and Qualifications
● Minimum academic title of Professor / Associate Professor in Microbiology
● Proven expertise in academic and/or professional experience in microbiology, with relevance to both education and clinical or laboratory practice.
● English language proficiency: C1 level.
● Experience in academic teaching, clinical supervision, or microbiology training.
● Scientific publications in microbiology or related biomedical and health science disciplines are considered an asset.
● Experience in coordinating or delivering microbiology laboratory sessions, case studies, or professional practice simulations is desirable.
