Position Description

Western Balkans University is seeking to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Mathematics to serve the Department of Computer Sciences within the Faculty of Economics, Technology and Innovation. The selected candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and academic support to students in the undergraduate and graduate programs of the department. The candidate is expected to be specialized in one or more areas of applied and pure mathematics, possessing advanced theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as experience in teaching and academic research. The candidate should be capable of delivering both theoretical lectures and practical sessions, and of supervising student projects and theses.

Given that the Department of Computer Sciences hosts undergraduate and graduate study programs in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, and Cyber Security, the candidate is expected to teach mathematics in a practice-oriented manner, connecting mathematical theory to computational thinking, algorithms, data analysis, cryptography, and software systems. The candidate must be able to lead both theoretical and practical classes and to demonstrate advanced scientific and pedagogical skills appropriate to this field.

This position offers opportunities to contribute to the growth and improvement of academic and professional quality, as well as to help students develop practical and theoretical skills in the mathematical foundations of computer science. The candidate is expected to be able to teach courses such as Mathematical Analysis/Calculus, Linear Algebra, Numerical Analysis, Discrete Mathematics, Differential Equations, Mathematical Methods and Optimization, Statistics, and Probability.

Job Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities

1. To recognize, respect, implement, and act in accordance with the legislation and internal legal acts in force;
2. To implement the provisions of the statute and internal regulations of the institution;
3. To implement the rules of ethics and discipline in the institution, avoiding any action inside and outside the institution that harms the image of the institution;
4. Undertake tasks related to student supervision, organizing academic consultations, and advising;
5. Engage in the implementation of administrative tasks in the department, which are defined in the relevant instructions;
6. To respect the time allocated for teaching according to the official schedule approved for the development of lecture, seminar, laboratory, and practical classes;
7. To fulfill the obligation to draft the syllabus and submit it after approval by the head of the basic unit according to the instructions in force;
8. To increase professional and academic skills and participate in training activities for this purpose;
9. Participate in scientific research activities and training in accordance with his/her profile (field of study), according to the needs and determinations of the institution;
10. To undergo an evaluation of the performance of academic staff;
11. To report at the end of each academic year on all aspects of the organization of teaching for the relevant discipline according to the predetermined format;
12. To contribute to the development, planning, updating, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum;
13. Assist in the development of learning materials and record keeping to monitor student progress, achievement, and participation; update learning materials and syllabus;
14. Participate in department and faculty seminars aimed at presenting research work and building interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the department;
15. Participate in the development, administration, and marking of exams and other assessments;
16. To contribute to the group work of the department, faculty, and Western Balkans University.

Education and Qualifications

1. Minimum scientific degree of Ph.D. or academic title of Prof. Assoc. / Prof. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
2. English language skills: Level C1 (all teaching is conducted in English).
3. Experience in university-level teaching in mathematics or related disciplines.
4. Demonstrated ability to teach mathematics in a practice-oriented manner to students from computer science-related fields.
5. Participation in scientific research activities; publications in indexed journals; participation in academic conferences.
6. Familiarity with mathematical software tools and programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, GeoGebra) is considered an advantage.
7. Relevant certificates, qualifications, and distinctions in the field of Mathematics or Applied Mathematics.
